Something about summer coming to an end and impending school year has me always reaching for quintessential summer treats in an attempt to slow the changing s seasons down a bit and enjoy a few more pleasures of summer while I still can.

In years past we’ve celebrated with root beer float movie nights and Back to School Floats and Friends Parties. But this year I hardly had time to buy new shoes for all the kids in time! Let alone invites friends over for a back to school party. So now that all the kids are back to school AND it’s my BIRTHDAY I’m celebrating with a Boozy Tropical Gelato Float.

Ingredients

  • Gelato – store bought gelato or homemade gelato are both delicious in this recipe. Layers of blueberry gelato and mango gelato make a striking contrast in both flavor and color but you can use whichever flavors of gelato or ice cream you prefer! Use blueberry ice cream, raspberry swirl ice cream, blackberry swirl ice cream, strawberry swirl ice cream in this recipe. Or try a mixed berry ice cream combination of any or all fruits!
  • Champagne or sparkling wine – Not a fan of champagne and want to make it a mocktail? Make mocktail boozy floats with fruity, fizzy kombucha instead!

Step by step instructions

Making Tropical Gelato Floats is as easy as scooping gelato and topping with champagne, or any other sparkling beverage of your choice.

Make it a mocktail

I’m no stranger to soda-alternatives in ice cream floats and I love kombucha floats for so many reasons! The main reason being because of all the homemade bouch around my house. But, really it makes a great substitute for fizzy beverages in so many recipes! Kombucha is an amazing way to add acidity and fizz to all sorts of drinks! From floats to cocktails and mocktails,

For a striped multi-flavor float make one batch of gelato base then divide and mix in fresh fruit puree before churning. It’s a great make ahead dessert to wow your guests! Or to treat yourself while binging on your favorite show at midnight on the couch 😉
