Dalgona ice cream recipe
A fabulous alternative to non dairy ice cream. This is rich and creamy and smooth and only takes a few minutes to whip up.
It has the rich ribbon like texture of really good thick ice cream or frozen custard.
A little strong by itself but Frozen Dalgona Coffee is perfect served as a float or swirled with vanilla ice cream.
Ingredients
- Instant coffee – preferably Nescafe freeze dried granules.
- Granulated sugar
- Boiling water
Step by step instructions
- Start by making Dalgona Whipped Coffee. Bring water to a boil and combine with sugar and instant coffee in a stand mixer. Whip vigorously to stiff peaks.
- Then instead of turning it into a whipped coffee foam iced latte spoon the dalgona whipped coffee into an airtight container.
- Tightly cover and place in the freezer overnight or until frozen.
- Scoop Frozen Dalgona Coffee with an ice cream scoop, wetting the scoop with hot water as needed.
- Serve and enjoy!
How to serve
Because dalgona coffee is so strong this is a very rich frozen coffee dessert and is much stronger than your typical coffee dessert recipe. It may be a little too strong for most to enjoy as is. But is perfect to combine with vanilla in coffee ice cream sundaes. Or even to dollop in an espresso martini as a gorgeous frozen garnish.
How to store
Store frozen covered in an airtight container for up to 3 months.

ROBBIE
How much Gelato does this Frozen Dalgona Coffee Gelato yield? The ingredients seem like it will only make about 1 cup?? But the photo of the container with the Coffee Gelato looks more than 1 cup . . .

Thanks for the question, Robbie! That is an excellent question that I realize I never covered in the blog post… this super sweet hot espresso mixture whips up considerably, similar to how a small amount of whipping cream whips up to a whole bowl full of whipped cream. So, yes, although the ingredients are only 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of Nescafe freeze dried instant coffee granules the yield is much more after all the air is whipped in.
