How to Throw a Greatest Adventure Baby Shower

Published: Jun 6, 2016 · Modified: Apr 5, 2023 by Tristin Rieken · 3 Comments

A Greatest Adventure Themed Baby Shower is a great way to welcome a little one into the world while also celebrating the adventure of parenting!

gather around the table at a greatest adventure party

Simple ‘worldy’ decor and delicious foods and drinks. A fabulous party for any celebrations for the at matter. Birthdays, graduations, retirement parties and more are all greatest adventures!

Hello, world

With tasteful and simple (mostly homemade!) decor and a simple menu this party is a breeze to throw together.

Theme

The first stage of planning any party is deciding on a theme – the look and feel of the event.  For this garden party in a beautiful outdoor space tucked away between the mountains and the sea in Bow, WA the theme and colors were based on the nursery, a neutral travel themed nursery with pops of bright teal, pink and orange. This both honors the parent’s personal tastes while reducing waste, as any leftover decorations can be used as nursery decor.

How to divide the workload

Flowers, venue, food, drinks, diy craft and overall decor are the main components of a great party. If you have more than one person interested in helping, delegating out these tasks is a great place to start. Have one person help with decor, venue and flowers while another takes food and drink and even invitation.

Decor

A vintage map is a perfect backdrop for either a gift table or a dessert display. It nods to the theme without being over the top. Dressing it up with swags in the party colors is totally optional.

Another fun way to bring in the travel theme is with other homemade map-decor. Cut hearts out of old maps and sew together to make a swag. Or make a smaller version to use as a cake topper.

The cake topper was made using a Silhouette Cameo cutter, glitter paper and a few paper straws. Fresh flowers were added at the last minute to jazz up the naked chocolate cake.

Use farm tables and benches to create one long family style table. Set with plates and goblets in the party colors for an elegant touch. That regardless of whether plated dinners, buffet spread or snack foods are being served help drive home the theme.

Food and drink

When planning baby shower food and drink always first think of the mama of the day. Ask them what they’ve been craving and design the spread around that. For this party it was all about the sweets – italian cookies, sugar cookies, chocolate cake and lemon tarts.

For beverages I like to have a little something for the Mama-to-be to enjoy as well as the other guests – always check with the bride-to-be for her thoughts before offering alcohol!

A self-serve beverage bar with bubbly, lemonade and an ample supply of mixers and mix-ins.

  • A glass spouted servers filled with ice cold lemonade
  • Another filled with ice cold lemon water
  • Various bubbles on ice – rose cava, prosecco and bubbles
  • Icy cold vodka
  • Sparkling water. There was an ample supply of mixers and mix-ins.
  • Ginger beer
  • Orange juice
  • Fresh mint
  • Fresh berries – blueberries, strawberries, raspberries..
  • Lime slices
  • Syrup dispenser with blackberry mint simple syrup (recipe below)

Activities

For activities we opted out of the typical baby shower games and instead filled the time with chatting, eating and drinking. And creating homemade toys for the baby!

Set up a diy baby block station for guests who want to get a little crafty. With 1 ½″ blocks, coordinating paper squares, paints, paint trays, wood letters, Modge Podge, wood glue and plenty of paintbrushes. Plus baby wipes to help wash the paint and glue off of the artist’s hands.

No photographer? No problem! Set out instant cameras and film for guests to get creative with their photography skills. At the end of the night fill up a mini photo album with the pics as a keepsake for the parents.

Enjoy!
