Fresh squeezed green grape juice gives this all natural green version of a gin rickey, also called a lime rickey, a tart refreshing flavor and a beautiful light green color.

    Green Halloween cocktail recipe

Halloween cocktails are a fun addition to your holiday! Whether you’re hanging out at home, trick or treating the neighborhood or getting dressed up for a costume party. Even better is when your Halloween cocktail matches your costume. And I feel like this green Halloween cocktail with it’s natural green color is perfect for so many Halloween costumes!

Swamp Monster, Poison Ivy from Batman, and Beetlejuice would all look perfectly appropriate with a big glass of frosty green cocktail.

Green cocktail on a black white and green Halloween table

Although Slime Rickey, Swamp Water or Beetle Juice are clever names for Halloween cocktails this delicious green drink would also be great for St Patrick’s Day or even as a festive Christmas cocktail. Feel free to change the name to ‘Grinchy Rickey’ for Christmas 😉

But, honestly, this isn’t just some gimmicky cocktail just about fun names and looks.

No, this is a Halloween cocktail, like The Full Moontini and Midnight Mango Margarita, that is fresh, fruity, fizzy and delicious.

Based on the classic Gin Rickey cocktail, s light refreshing mix of gin, lime juice and soda water, this Halloween version adds fresh squeezed green grape juice to give it a spooky green color without any food coloring or green colored liqueur.

And it adds more than a beautiful fun color. Grape juice also adds fresh, juicy flavor and acidity that pairs so well with botanical gin and lime juice.

    Ingredients

    • Green grapes – are turned into homemade green grape juice. Fresh kiwi puree blended with a splash of pineapple juice can be used instead to give the same color and tart flavor.
    • Gin– or make with vodka for a vodka halloween cocktail instead. Or you could also make this halloween drink non alcoholic simply by omitting the gin.
    • Lime – squeezed to make fresh squeezed lime juice
    • Club soda – or substitute with ginger beer or lightly sweetened ginger ale soda to add a bit more sweetness and a light ginger flavor.

    Step by step instructions

    1. Begin by turning fresh grapes into grape juice. Wash 3 pounds, roughly a few large bunches, of grapes and remove stems. Add to a large saucepan and cook over low heat, popping grapes and stirring with a potato masher or large spoon. Cook over low heat until grapes release all their juices. Then use a cheesecloth or nut milk bag to strain out skins and any seeds or stems. Place in glass jar or pitcher and refrigerate up to 3 days.
    2. When ready to serve shake green grape juice in a cocktail shaker with ice, gin and lime juice.
    3. Pour into a highball glass.
    4. Top with club soda to fill.
    5. Garnish this fresh green grape cocktail recipe with a skewer of peeled grapes. Or add a few frozen grapes in the glass.

Make a non alcoholic halloween drink

To turn this grape cocktail into a fun non alcoholic halloween drink simply omit the gin and instead add a bit more club soda. Ginger ale or lemon lime soda can also be used instead of club soda to add a bit of sweetness.

    Yield

This recipe makes enough for one serving. But can easily be made into a fun halloween or St Patricks Day gin pitcher cocktail. Simply stir 1 cup gin, with 2 cups grape juice and ½ cup lime juice in a large pitcher. Fill with ice and top with soda when ready to serve.

To prevent the vibrant green drink from getting watered down substitute frozen grapes for ice.
